I've lost about 7K pages in the previous update and 5K more a day or two ago. I don't know why.. but I gained over 50 new quite competitive keyphrases and my traffic from Yahoo is way up since the previous update... hope I'm not gonna go down.

You're not alone. Thousands of site owners have been reporting the same thing.

What type of pages were dropped - static or dynamic?

dynamic, but most of the urls rewritten by mod_rewrite to look static.

I was just wondering - I don't have any theories

I have read alot of postings about Yahoo on many forums, but have not seen a common thread to the page drops. Who knows, maybe the Yahoo Slurp has a bug in it.

Are you able to drill down in your web logs and analyze the paths taken by spiders? For example, with my log analyzer I can limit the information to a single bot over a period of time, then analyze the paths that it takes through my site. This way, at least I know the bot is navigating the site properly.

No, actually, I don't have that good log analizer. What do you use? And how much is it?

I use WebLogExpert. It's a decent program (not great, but decent) to handle raw log files. It cost me $74.95, but there is a 30-day free trial. The Lite version is free.

One thing that I really like about WLE is that you can also download and import a geo-location database to see the city / state / country origin of your web visitors. A snap shot of a few months isn't that much good, but 6-12 months of geo data can be used for real estate agents to target print media advertising in other markets.

As I posted in another forum. I believe Yahoo is trying to increase its index to promote this to businesses vs the index of google. Yahoo as we all know is wanting to cash in on businesses advertising with them like googles adsense.

One thing I can point to as yahoo trying to increase its index is they have let several sites that I know was ban by them over the last 2 years back in to the index. Some have reported a huge increase in backlinks and dont believe they should have this many. I can only contribute this to the increased size in their index.

For one of my city plus real estate phrases. Our normal index use to show about 6 to 7 million...this increased to 16 million and is now over 35 million.

Yahoo appears to be deep in an identity crisis. They are tying to be both the same and different from google but don't know how. Hopefully they will get their act together. The best outcome would be to have MSN, Google and Yahoo about equal.

all is going to change with the new IPV6 technology
