why does yahoo differ so much from google results
Don't yahoo and google both use links as a determining factor in ranking? Then why do sites that rank well in google not rank in yahoo? and viceverse?

Google and Yahoo have their own algorithm in ranking websites so expect different result in SERP also link is just one of the 200+ factor Google look to when ranking a website so it's safe to assume that Yahoo works that way also (not depending on links alone when ranking websites).

The big differences between Yahoo and Google are listed below.
1. Yahoo does not have a problem with paid links and so does not penalize them.
2. Yahoo gives more credit to having keywords in the domain than does google.
3. Yahoo uses the keyword meta tag to help determine rankings and many say goog does not use this in the slightest.

Google basically has high weight on niche content. For example if you have a real estate website google expect you to have good links from the real estate websites. If you get links from non related websites google more than likely wont count them. Yahoo basically count everything on a website.

Google seems to update their algorithm a lot more as well. They're constantly changing the way they do rankings.
