Improving Rankings...
I have a fairly new site (started in March). The initial kickoff surge placed me high on the rankings (as expected). Then I went through a period of highs and lows.
Now I have been on a steady trend of improvements, little by little inching along.
I compare this to weight loss, the first pounds come off quickly but then you have to earn it from then on.
Here is my question... I have now stalled and would like ideas on what I can do to move again, even if it is just a little.
Thanks!

Keep coming here and start building on your site. Yahoo, I have found, is a lot more unstable, so you may be able to rank quicker. Google will take much longer, but you will find that it is much more rewarding. I would continue to add content and maybe hire someone who specializes in SEO.

I thought you were seosusan !
Maybe you are going the wrong way about things, look at competitors and see why they are ranking as they are, do some research into their domain and maybe you need to do some tidying up on your site.
There are 101 reasons that could be affecting you and your site, if you are serious about getting someone else to work on your site make sure you get someone you can trust, even ask some company you know well to use the same person so you know what you are getting.
Start writing articles on your niche subject, with a link pointing to your site and different pages, you will soon see a difference like I have in google. I have been writing articles that over take my sites for its given keywords in the space of a week.
Keep working on getting quality one way links to your websites, go to the directory section on this forum to see what directories are suitable for you site to submit to. There are thousands of ways of getting your site to where you want it to be - but hard work is the main factor.
Good luck with your site seosusan.

For any search engines if you want to have good ranking you will need some great content and also try to have a lot of backlinks pointing to your site. This should help the spiders find your site.
Also submitting a sitemap also helps.

hello
As new in this field, id like to share what i learned about the three SEs on how they weight a site according to their algo. and here goes..
Google weight a site on number of quality backlinks, while in yahoo they're much prepared on unique content. but MSN still looks on META TAGS as well as content..

Links
I read a post in another part of the forum talking about links and how the search engines are starting to phase out of that but me personally I believe they are of great importance. I found the best links are to type in your domain name no www or .com just the name and find what it pulls in each search engine then link to them.
Also you can get scripts or companys to find out what keywords are the best for your 1. area 2. field 3. domainDenver Colorado listings and homes for sale. http://coloradohomesdenver.com
