Simpleton, but confused
For all of you computer gurus, my question is probably so stupid as to elicit laughter. But, here it is:
when I go to my yahoo.com homepage, I notice all kinds of sites on the lower left screen being accessed. And it takes a long time to get to email, etc. Just tell me if this is normal, or is there something I can do to get past all of that crud.
Thanks.

There are no stupid questions!
All of those URLs being accessed is the loading of all the remote content Yahoo puts on their web site. Based on how well those remote sites are responding, it can affect the speed of complete browser web page load.
If you're using a web-based service to read email, that can affect your load time as well.

That's why Google is way faster than Yahoo - because of this reason. Google is very simple and does not do like what Yahoo does -and Yahoo do the other way around. It also consumes time for Yahoo - although their email now get a little bit faster than before.
