Yahoo is useless.. at least for me
I am rank #1 with yahoo for my keyword and get less traffic then my #10 at google for the same keywords. SO yahoo is useless, they should be shot j/k.. I love em cuz I'm #1 there. They're my reward for all of my recent efforts. Thanks Yahoo. Now if you can send some traffic one of these years that would be great

I've seen previous responses to the effect that yahoo traffic very much depends on the topic.
My own example involves a destination guide that is essentially in the travel and tourism sector for a highly competitive USA vacation niche. Top 1 to 3 positions in yahoo on the primary search terms generate insignificant traffic.. even less than MSN.

Not necessarily. You should be thankful that you gained traffic from Yahoo considering the fact that almost 80% of search engine queries are done at Google. Useless is not the right word.

I agree, while there is some traffic from Y it's good, but on the other side it took almost a month to index my website at Y, and during that time G has crawled it and indexed it already several times.

It is not good to say that Yahoo is useless. There are some strategies that every search engine follow. Based on those strategies the site will be ranked.

Yahoo is definitely not useless. Just cause the keyword is highly trafficked on google and not yahoo, doesn't mean that there are not other good keywords that are. Granted, you will most likely always derive most of your traffic from the G monster, Yahoo is still apart of the picture and often overlooked.

Google has more users so it will generate more traffic. Yahoo is still very useful and important. I use it all the time for looking at backlinks. It works much better than google does for this. For me it's a great tool and has a variety of uses, some of which are backups for extending through googles results, but I use it on a daily basis.
Unless you have advertising through yahoo or a big link on one of their dir's i don't think anyone get's as much traffic as they do through Yahoo.

Brings up the point of whether the $299 fee for the Yahoo directory is worth is. IMHO I think for any main or significant site, its worth ponying it up. I also think a paid link in Best of the Web is worth it too, which is much less then Yahoo or Business.com. Only $99 for yearly or $249 for lifetime.
