I am not sure if googlebot or other spiders are blocked from crawling the forum pages....

yes, i have seen backlinks on google and yahoo from this real estate forum.

for checking backlinks from google, you can do the suggestion of the thread starter or check it using google webmaster tool

Try yahoo site explorer it is a good backlink checker tool.

I've checked site explorer. It seems most of the links I've made don't show up. I hoped Google would pick up some that Yahoo didn't.

Well site explorer does find links from this forum. I haven't tried Google's webmasters tool yet, but I did check it out. I read you can check links on Google with link:yourdomain.com, but not much comes up. It sure would be nice to know what links Google likes. SEO is so time consuming!

You will not find the backlinks using the link:www(yourwebsite)
you have to go to the google webmaster tools.

i had to learn this the hard way also so cheers.

I saw some backlinks..my question is why after posting sometimes sig does not appear? sometimes it appears?

Yes it does show up.. trying posting the URLs into Google on pages you have links on.. definitely counts and is important.

Yes, I see the links in my google webmaster tools. May take a bit to index, but they are there.

From what I can tell, this forum is do-follow. However, there are some forums that only allow no-follow, or only allow no-follow until a certain post count is reached.

Also, (as far as I know) Google does not have anything in its algorithm that differentiates between links from forum posts and links from forum signatures.
