Google does like pages that are updated regularly, but if you have a real estate listings website, you should not need to do anything artificially since every time you get a new listing or sell a house, you will be updating it.

Search engine ranking is determined by a number of factors:

content, freshness of the pages (average age and changes over time) , inbound links (and when they are established), traffic, ratio of selection when appearing in search results, traffic patterns, freshness of anchor text, domain expiration date, etc.

Hey there are better ways to get ranked, I have number 1 rankings on over 250 websites and press releases.
My top google rank for the top number 1 spot is out of 55,000,000 Pages.
But my biggest ranking in the largest page search is a 4 th rank out of 200,000,000 Pages.
And I did use Meta Tags on some, but it really doesn't matter much.
Meta Tags help about 10% only, 90% deals with 3 other issues.
And those are my secrets I won't share.
