A self hosted WordPress site will give you much more of a robust platform for building a website thanks to all the plugins. Go WordPress, WordPress, Wordpress. If you want help let me know I would be happy to help get you rocking. That goes for anyone that is looking to have a real estate based internet presence. Feel free to IM me.

Depends on what you need and your skill level
I would recommend either, WordPress or Joomla. I prefer Joomla because it's always developing and there are a ton of additional modules, components and pieces that you can add to it. It's great for SEO due to the structure compared to WP 2009/8/articles url example.
Joomla is also free and has a very large community following for support to help you get going and help with any problems.

I prefer Joomla over the others
I prefer Joomla over the others such as Drupal and WordPress. Joomla has a very extensive community that is very involved in development but WordPress is more widely used due to the ease of use. I would do as much research and figure out which one is right for you and your needs.
I would recommend you research, research, research and then make a decision based on what you need.
Hope this helps!Jonathan Carey

Re: What website builder to use
It depends upon the level of your technical skills. You can use wordpress or joomla. Or you can start studiyng website design by studying css. It is the most basic website design script to use.

Try Thesis 1.6 for Wordpress
Thesis 1.6 for wordpress is something I recently made a site with. You can eliminate al most any coding at all. The interface lets you ad and edit a nav menu, header, ad and delete columns, borders and content and background borders all with no html at all. Its the best way ive found to build a great looking site with no monthly subscription.

Hey, check out my videos that show how to set up blogger as a lead generating site. I've found it is really easy to use blogger to set up a real estate website. I made these videos that show how, and they are actually free. I chose this over Wordpress because it allows you to use scripts. For example; a sign up form for potential clients to contact you.
If you are a little more advanced, try using the version of Wordpress that you can put on your own server (I use 1and1.com, and it is really inexpensive, but extremely reliable). Wordpress.com sites hosted on the Wordpress server won't let you add sign up forms from any email management software, but the version you host offsite will. It is a little more work, but it really is better than Blogger if you have basic knowledge of FTP and HTML.
If you don't want to figure out Wordpress, just set up Blogger. It work really well, even if you have never done any website building before.Last edited by Chief Tutor; 01-23-2010 at 01:33 PM. Reason: URL already in signature
I decided to give away my 2 favorite videos on building a free website that actually gets real estate leads! If you try it out, can you please email me and let me know how many leads you are getting each week?.

I'm not very computer savvy so I use SiteBuildIt to build my websites. I don't need to know html and all of the technical stuff, all I need to do is build content. They do the rest.
