    The xml site map is very good. Use it in conjunction with Google webmaster tool site and all is good in Google's eyes.

    ^True. I use Xmap plug in for Joomla! powered web site, and it works just fine. Site map is very important, especially when Google skips some pages for unknown reasons, site map makes sure that crawler newer gets lost in your web site.

    Use to google own tool. It's is doing a great job and it is free. However i'm personally using a component for joomla 1.5 which is automatically generating sitemaps and pinging when i post something new to the websites...
