Static IP address REQUIRED to access FTP?
Have you ever heard of a host requiring you to have a static IP address to access the server?
This is the first time for me to be asked for this so I was curious?
Also - how would I find out if I have a static IP address?

You need to change hosting providers! Absolutely, positively no way you need a dedicated IP address to access your FTP. I'd recommend at least checking out 1849WebHosting dot com -- good solid hosting.

You need a static ip not a dedicated ip all servers have a static ip that allows a DN server to connect with it however most hosting plans are grouped together on a server so they will have a separate port on the server. This just allows 1 ip to host several sites. A dedicated ip is when 1 website uses 1 ip address.
To access your site via FTP you just need the ip of the website you don't need a dedicated ip get a new host.Real Estate Portal Software - Fully Featured Real Estate Portal Software for Newspaper's, Real Estate Agents, & Entrepreneurs

BlueSoft is correct. On a shared server, multiple websites share the same IP address (the static ip address) and when you FTP into your account, your username is how the FTP server software knows what directory and files to show you (in other words, how it knows your account from all the others who use the same IP address).
It's not uncommon for a shared hosting server to host 400 websites!
