I don't know what exactly went wrong in these ToS violations, it looks automated which I admit would annoy me quite a bit. I've used a lot of different hosts for various projects and I honestly have overall had a positive experience with DreamHost (with ups and downs though).

It was mentioned that their control panel is not very intuitive. Something I actually liked about DreamHost was that it was more programmer-oriented. If you know your way around Linux, their control panel is the most logical you will find on a shared hosting plan. Also, they have less restrictive shell access, not "jail shell" like generic cPanel hosts tend to offer. Plus, it's the only shared hosting I've found that has SVN.

On the other hand, uptime is not always good at DreamHost, and for obvious reasons that is a major flaw. They recently bought a new data center, and actually uptime did improve substantially after that.

Also, DreamHost's support has improved over the years, with fast responses to e-mails and they now have live chat as well.

So long story short, I like DreamHost for development projects and if you have a lot of Linux experience you will appreciate some of their features (for these same reasons if you aren't a programmer you probably will NOT like it). However, due to downtime issues, occasional slowness, and seeming inconsistent quality of servers, I would ultimately have to advice against using them for production sites where uptime is crucial.

I've been with A2 for years now and can say they are superior in every way. I recently started doing reseller hosting but with another company for a year there... And now I've switched that to A2 as well; because even though it costs more the customer support, uptime and overall quality is amazing.

Dreamhost has been good to me too, and I've definitely strained their resources at times. This makes me wonder if I should preemptively switch web hosts though.

It's not just DH, this problem is with all the oversold, unlimited kind of hosting companies.

Apart from that, to keep your website and scripts used in it secure is your responsibility, whether you know how things work or not. If your site is defaced, compromised you can not blame the hosting company because you have not secured your site enough.
