Default How do I ask my web developer for his code without pissing him off?

I'm a mediator between a company I am consulting and a web designer (who is trying to finalize a website).

I'm going to try and get the code from my designer but how do I ask in a way that won't get him pissed off or worried we are changing developers?

Was it part of the requirements to deliver the source code?
If it wasn't mentioned you can try ask a question in an email like :
"BTW how are you going to deliver the source code?"
You'll see how he reacts, and it might open a door for you
