    Default web design expectations

An online visitor has certain minimum expectations with respect to the site, usually some of the expectations are fast loading pages,a need website layout with contrasting colors, usability aspects that matches the expectations. If a site fulfills these minimum expectations its most likely to be accepted by the online visitors.

That's why those who want websites done should ask for designs done in pure css and less image. More image and flash means the website will load slow.

Your site may look fancy and nice but who's going to visit it if the load time is slow?

When a site is loading slow, it is usually a server or a scripting problem...
Usually web design ( html + css + graphics ) don`t slow down too much...The best thing you can do for this is to optimize the graphics to make them smaller

The site must be user friendly so that it can navigate easily by the visitors.

Yep, the analogy is that online visitors are like 5-year olds with a low attention span and need their hand held in order to get through your site.
