An idea regarding our signatures...
Some forums limit signature links to 2, some limit them to 3. While I do not agree with these limits, they do have a purpose. That is to keep the site from looking like a link farm. If every member had 10-15 links in their sig, and there are ten posts per page in a thread, it would look like a LF over here in no time. And that my friends is not why we are here.
Please take a minute to vote on how many links you think we should each be allowed to have. If a majority decision is reached, Mike does not have to hold his friends to it, after all there should be some benny's to being his friend, right? Surely no one would dis-agree that Mike deserves to do whatever he pleases with signatures since he has put so much time, effort and money into this for us.
Post or not, please at least vote.

Netiquette
Another point about sigs is not show them if you post a second time on a page. So, for this post I'll show my sig, but if I post again I'll uncheck that little box. If the thread goes to multiple pages I'll let it be shown again. We have 10 posts per page, the post number is shown so it's easy to tell before you post if you should be checking the signature box or not.

I think too many would inoccently(sp?) forget to do that. I know I get wrapped up in good discusion... That's why I was thinking a limit should be imposed for the good of this forum and all who contribute here.
So far I see two other votes are for less than the relaxed five I choose.
Of course this poll closes soon, so we might not get many votes.

I voted too, just didn't comment on my vote.
It was for 3. 4 is good, 5 is too many.
I figure that I link to sites that then link to my other key sites so build up one, build up the lot.
With shorter posts the risk is that the sigs dominate the text on the page and make G think all the pages are basically the same. Esp. with smaller forums where the same people make most of the posts.

Those are words of wisdom.
We should try to get them into the "forum handbook". Seriously, I like the way you think.

If we don't all agree on a number, maybe we can get the software to only allow one sig per member per page? That would be cool. You really have a lot of good ideas.

There is a hack to do that.

I haven't used it but it seems to have anything a signature cop could want.

I will PM Mike about it. Thanks for sharing Sarah! You rock!
We need better smilies...
Anyways, with this in effect, there would not be a need to limit the number of links, well maybe we still should keep it under a hundred, don't you think?
