Enroll in a real estate salesperson class, pass that, and then take the state test and get your license.

Every state has a Realtor association. Contact your state association and they should be able to direct you to a local licensing company. In MN it takes a few weeks by the time you complete the coursework and pass the test.
Looking for a realtor in Minnesota? How about a Missouri realtor in St. Louis or Kansas City? Agents Ranking researches the performance of thousands of real estate agents every year and hand selects the best realtors. You can also find information on Minneapolis Realtors at Minneapolisrealestates.com.

And make sure that you save a ton of money. You'll likely do very little business in this market and as a new agent. Try and have 18 months of living expenses.
Austin Texas broker works in Austin Texas Real Estate. If you are looking to buy and sell Austin Real Estate, we can help. We love Lakeway Real Estate as well.

What state are you located in? Since every state has their own way of doing things, knowing where you want to be licensed will allow others from that state to give you very specific advice.
Personally, I can help with California.www.keenagents.com

Look on the web for the division of business and professional regulation in your state. There should be a link to real estate. The yellow pages will also work for a school in your area. The test in Florida is 40 hours classroom, then test and then the state exam. Austin Broker is correct you must have some money put away. A new agent in this market is tough, unless you have alot of prior contacts.

Try to find a mentor who will teach you the business. In return you can help the mentor with all sorts of small jobs. If you work hard you may get a small percentage of some commissions.
Also you better get a second job to get by in this market.

Real Estate License
If you're looking to get into the business hook up and go thru with one of the major companies and their training program. It's cheaper and more interaction with real agents to help you learn. If you're just going to be buying and selling yourself you may not want to get your license. You might be better off just having a good Realtor finding you the deals and let them take care of the paperwork, searches, escrows, etc.

Your looking to become a new agent? Now? You brave soul. Hopefully you are very popular in town and have crazy marketing ideas. My suggestion is to first enroll in class, pass the test, and get with a brokerage. In the meantime by a domain name of what you want to target...Create a blog and start writing USEFUL articles.
