for you to have rankings you need to have relevant backlink and traffic.

Nope, it is not based on the number of hits. You would get a bunch of quality traffic if you have great visibility in major search engines. And to attain high rankings on them, a site must be well-optimized, on-page and off-page.

this is right however in addition to that, you can also check your site in google analytics to check where your ranking..and if you want to have a good ranking you should work hard for it..

Google PR is one of the driving force behind the search engine ranking pages. Its the toolbar PR which is not what I am referring to but when the toolbar PR updates the actual PR and the toolbar PR should be very close.
