If you're talking about the actual keyword or phrase as used throughout a page on your site, at one time the conventional wisdom was that it should be one or two words at most.
Now, that conventional wisdom as I've read it says that keyword phrases should be three or maybe four words long. For example, "Florida real estate." With infinitely more sites out there, and competition increasing at the same exponential rate, the search engines are becoming more specific in the results returned.
If you're talking about keywords or phrases in the title tag, the conventional wisdom is that the SE's don't read more than about nine words in the title, and no more than a few dozen in the meta description tags.
By the way, when I use the term "conventional wisdom," I'm referring to the opinions of some long-time SEO specialists on a very popular webmaster forum.

I agree with home, and putting some of your keywords on the title and description will give you some points there.
"Now, that conventional wisdom as I've read it says that keyword phrases should be three or maybe four words long"
Yeah it's true, but still don't rely on this unless this was your main target KW, try also to use some Long-Tailed KW that you may think if you are the user and try to search for an specific keyword, like for an example "affordable condos and apartments in florida"
but still check the number of searches of this keywords per day and per month, if you think it's good target it

Keyword and description length
1- Keyword meta tag validation
One of the most important items in proper search engine indexing is the proper use of meta keywords. The checkpoints listed in this section for keyword validation assure that you are using keywords and that your usage does not break any key usage policies.
- Validate Minimum Keywords Length
Your keywords meta tag should not be less then 200 Characters. When you use less then 200 Characters you are most likely not taking advantage of a search engines indexing capabilities.
- Validate Maximum Keywords Length
Your keywords meta tag should not exceed 1055 Characters. When you exceed 1055 Characters some search engines may consider that you are trying to spam the engine. Additionally if the search engine mechanism uses keywords to index your page properly, you may be decreasing the accuracy of the search.
2 - Description meta tag validation
Another important item in proper search engine indexing is the proper use of meta description. The checkpoints listed in this section for description validation assure that you are using description and that your usage does not break any key usage policies.
-Validate Minimum Description Length
Your description meta tag should not be less then 55 Characters. When you use less then 55 Characters you are most likely not taking advantage of a search engines indexing capabilities.
-Validate Maximum Description Length
Your description meta tag should not exceed 255 Characters. When you exceed 255 Characters some search engines may consider that you are trying to spam the engine. Additionally if the search engine mechanism uses description to index your page properly, you may be decreasing the accuracy of the search.
