    Default No Follow Tags

Should I be using no follow tags for my idx solution? The idx is held on an outside site and I currently have well over 100 links pointing to it on my site.

Depends on how many links are going out, what is the PageRank of your ID solutions, and are they competing for any of the same searches that you are.

If its a small number of links, and they have a PR of 5 or above, and they are not competing with you, then don't use rel=nofollow, otherwise use it. I suggest not using it because referencing a trusted site can help you become more trusted.

Well, the nofollow rule really apllies to Google. Yahoo and MSN still indexes beyond the link.

I would second the "don't use them" answer. It's unnecessary in a case like yours. It's mostly used for publishers that sell ad space and don't want to pass PR.

    Default NoFollow

The nofollow still passes PR. It still count's as a vote.

nofollow is for google to not follow links into your own page. I.e. the spider won't follow them. However, they still get counted as a pr vote.

I might be wrong, but I thought no follow = no vote and no PR passed along.

    Default Nofollow

I used to think so as well. Then I recently came across some discussions that talked about how nofollow passed PR and how Google changed their words relating to the issue and made it more vague.

    Here's what I think:

Other search engines ingore the tag so you get votes from search engines like yahoo.

I've seen sites get weighted links from nofollows.

Maybe if the nofollow link comes from a RELATED site then it's counted.

Even if they don't pass PR they might still pass a non pr vote. Such that a link might actually rank your site for those anchor keywords even though no PR is passed.

Marcosll is right, I have some no-follow links from a forum, and G counts them.

Google might follow links with nofollow technically, but they don't give any credit to that link,, ie. they don't pass pagerank.

It was there way of dealing with blog comment spam back a few years ago. It hasn't detered spammers because yahoo and msn still followed the links,, but that has changed. They all accept and supposedly use it.

You can use nofollow internally as well. Meaning you can add nofollow to parts of your site you don't want to pass pagerank too,, like your IDX, privacy policy, usage policy, contact form or any other generic pages you don't need to rank.

That will build up the pagerank on your other pages giving you a boost in the serps.
