nofollow is for google to not follow links into your own page. I.e. the spider won't follow them. However, they still get counted as a pr vote.

It actually not passes any value, so no googlebot do not look over there and just do not include it in index as well. So no question of PR vlue.

I have the esact same situation as the original poster. we have a very professional, unique content real estate site but our listings search is run by a third party. I have links all over our site pointing to our search provider. I haven't gone through them and posted nofollow but I don't know if has ever affected our SEO.

You can use nofollow internally as well. Meaning you can add nofollow to parts of your site you don't want to pass pagerank too,, like your IDX, privacy policy, usage policy, contact form or any other generic pages you don't need to rank.

That will build up the pagerank on your other pages giving you a boost in the serps.
I totally agree with you, meaning am not adding jack to the comment.

I suggest making them do follow. By doing so, Google bots can crawl your site and could aid in better search engine visibilities.

This is what's so frustrating and challenging about SEO and Google; everyone has an opinion, yet know one KNOWS what's really going on back there. Only what has and has not worked for THEM, through trial and error. I love the willingness of everyone to submit their $.02 and it should all (mostly) be considered as one tries to figure this out. Just take it all with a grain of salt is my rec.

This is very, very important for you to have your webdesigner implement across your entire site when you have a link of this kind to an outside IDX website. It makes no difference if they "give" you a sub-directory page...it's still their site.
