write good content and link! In the mean time go to yahoo and pay for hits! thats the best way... to start out till you can fade to "free" hits... how many links do you have to your website??

I did create a sig and put my website within there. My site pretty much is about flipping houses and investing in real estate. I know I paid for 100 links to my website thru some directory submission company but im not sure how to tell how many accual incoming links I have. Is there any way to tell?

I know I always say link exchanging is a thing of the past but it is a great way of starting off. I do it with all my new sites, then after a two month stint of link exchanging I using stop and remove the links.
Make a start on getting one way links by writing articles, using forums, posting on blogs, directories and making sure you have a quality site for visitors to return to.

Hello,
Search engines are getting smarter day by day and rankings are based on many factors but I have fast solution for you which will definitely work for you.
Do hire some writer and ask him to write unique article for you on your website. Its services and other things you think best for others to know about you or what you have different etc. You can get good article for around $10 per article.
Then look for article submission websites. Here you may need to pay some $$$ is you are looking for quick quality results. Do pay such submission services to post your article on the web. Its not like your article will remain on that website only. These sites will submit your article to media, and other subscribers as well as other article directory websites.
You know what? These article websites generally have 4+ page ranks if they are doing serious business and when your article goes to such directories, you get FREE one way link to your website which in result boost your website's page rank.
Again, nothing happens in a day, you will have to give it time of few months to get results.
Good Luck!

Maybe you paid $2.95 to have your site submitted to a gazillion directories that aren't worth spit. That won't help you, but it won't hurt you.
On the other hand, if you've paid real money for links to your site, you could be in trouble. The major seach engines know which sites charge real money for links, and they don't like those sites.
You're not going to get indexed by Google or the other major SE's in a matter of days, or even weeks. (Assuming, of course, that your site is new). More than likely, it could take a month or two before your site is even in the index. And then it will take months more before you start to rank for your keywords.
If you want to see if your site is even indexed, go to Yahoo.com, and do a search for site:www.mysite.com. Or you can do the same with Google.
Just have patience. I rolled out a new 1000+ page site in June of 2004. It wasn't even crawled by Google for nearly three months, and didn't show up in the index until about October or so. It wasn't until about December that the site even started ranking for my best search terms.
By March of 2005, though, I was at nearly 100,000 visitors. By March of 2006, I was over 200,000 visitors, and had over a million page views per month.
Nothing goes as planned, and everything takes longer than you expected.

there are over a million directories, give it up they are worthless essentially. go to forum.digitalpoint.com and make posts on there with a link in your signature, make sure to submit your content to google and yahoo. get to know google very well, they offer a ton of ways to track your traffic and your keywords, etc.

Keep in mind that everything should be done in moderation (kind 'a like other things in life
). If you take off and do too much too fast, this will set you back further in your page rankings than you are currently.
With steady work and attention, you will get there.
I also would recommend doing a mail out to your SOI. I saw a huge jump on my visits just after my mailing hit my homes.
