Thread: NEW: what you have heard about SEO ?

After looking through some of the comments about what is good for your sites and what isn't good SEO - it would be funny to hear some "SEO tips for success" that are far from the truth....

I'm a new member to this forum, so I imagine my comments will be taken with at least a grain of salt.

I've been doing SEO work for over six years, and have sites that rank at the top of Google and the lesser search engines for literally hundreds of terms.

If you want to learn how to get your sites ranked well, just do a search for "Brett Tabke." His 26 steps to a successful site on Google is still the bible of SEO.

It's not that hard. If I can do it, anyone with an IQ of at least 100 can.

The problem is that it's extremely time-consuming. I spent four solid months constructing just one website, and then the next nine months getting it ranked well on the search engines.

The effort paid off, though. I get anywhere from 160,000 visitors to 200,000+ visitors a month, and as many as over a million page views.

That took a lot of time to get to those #1 spots.

I'm more than willing to help people who want to SEO their own sites, but I'm not willing to do their work for them.

So, why am I on a real estate forum? Because, as the notorious bank robber Willy Sutton replied when asked why he robbed banks, "that's where the money is."

The big money in internet affiliate marketing is in just a few sectors, real estate being one of them.

So, I'm here to learn as much as I can to build a new site that's devoted 100% to earning money from affiliate advertising from the real estate/mortgage industry.

In return for that knowledge, I'm more than happy to give advice to those who are trying to get their sites ranked well on the search engines.

I'm not saying I'm the best SEO expert in the world, but I've yet to not get first-page results (when my clients cooperate with me).

The game of SEO changes along with changes of search engines themselves. So there should be a time stamp put on "SEO tips for Success". Many old SEO tips for Success simply would not work today.

bmc, while the "game," as you call it, has changed, the goals of the major search engines have remained the same: to give users the most accurate results possible based on the search terms used.

Meta keyword tags still have some value, but not to the extent they once did.

Spamming pages with keywords is no longer acceptable.

It's reached the point where the SE's can tell if a site is user-friendly. Build a site that's user-friendly, and the SE's will no doubt like it as well.

The tough part is getting the rankings. Doing so when there were several million websites was easier than today, when there are several billion.

Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I've used Brett Tabke's advice for over six years, and I'm still able to get sites on the first page of Google.

Certainly you can disagree with me. But here's the test: I'm launching a new website that's devoted to the mortgage/real estate market, one of the most competitive niches on the internet.

Give me a year, and let's see if the old-fashioned techniques I will employ still work.
