I disagree. Any kind of business that has a website can use SEO and find success with it (by that I mean get good rankings) and a lot of websites actually finds good exposure through this process. But, it is just something that you do to get your business seen, what should be the main power of your business, as you termed it, should be the product or service that you offer. Without any good product or service, you wouldn't really get the sales that you want. people may go into your site but without buying anything, then your SEO efforts would be useless.
