Those are great Link Building Tips you got there. I definitely agree to those words of yours which you say that, "Search engines like Google see back link’s sort of like a vote of recommendation, because it assumes the first website is linking to the second website because it’s content is good".

Relevancy makes a difference through Search Engine's rules.

Writing a quality content like any research work about your industry helps you in link-bait, as content is always king and if you have happening post on your blog/site then other webmasters will automatically love to mention your link in there posts/articles with reference to your content.

i have read this topic, and really it is very interesting, specially who engaged with SEO business or SEO activity.
Any Person or Business who want their site on higher rank with minimum time effort can follow this tips.
And the Social Media option like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube as well as Google+ are the major player for Social Media Marketing, so i suggesting that follow this Tips for better result.
