Meta tags are still really important and should be worked on after a nice keyword research

    Default SEO and Meta Tags

After many years of SEO here is my take on meta tags for SEO and real estate.

Keyword Meta Tags - Meta keyword tags are generally considered useless and 100% ignored by Google and the other search engines. Think of it this way: Google knows that when someone want to get ranked for certain keywords they are likely to add them to the meta keywords section. Google also knows that just because you say that a page is about x does not mean that it is really about x. If you say it is about x but all of the keywords and links that point to the page say its about Y, Google will only show the page when someone searches for Y not X.

Keyword Description Tags - These can actually be quite useful for your SEO efforts. The meta description tag is a quick synopsis about your page. In many cases Googe will show this text under your page title in the Search engine results. In other words the small black text under your blue title in the SERP. So if you write an enticing Meta description tag it can increase your click through rate by encouraging users to click the link.

While there are other meta tags these are the two that are most directly related to SEO.
