    Default Yahoo VS Google

I personally prefer yahoo over google simply because at yahoo's home page, there is a lot more to see compared to Google's blank page (unless you make a query). I want to hear people's views on this one.

Google is undoubtedly the best serach engine though you're right that Yahoo home page is simply excellent as it has got loads of information that can allure a visitor to stay there!

For traffic - there is only one search engine to get ranked in - Google.

For whatever reason, the visitors from Google are better quality (they convert - ie take an action on our sites)

Over 65% of our traffic comes from Google on our main site.

For new sites we use Twitter - very easy to get targeted traffic from Twitter

You are right about Google. If you are trying to decide where to get ranked Google is the only one to concentrate on. It is used 50 to 1 over any other search engine. If you do what's necessary to rank well n Google you will rank well in the others. As a formally trained webmaster I get together with some employees of one of the best SEO companies in the country. They do companies like 3M, Honeywell, Medtronics, St Jude, etc. They tell me all the time that Google is the place to be seen. Good Luck!

Yup, in terms of getting listed, Google is in the top list. Other than that... I would still go for Yahoo!

Really, it all comes down to the user interface. If you are interested in simplicity and faster load times, Google will be your best bet. On the other hand, if you are interested in pretty much one page that is customized to provide you with a variety of information that you like to have on a daily basis, then you will be better off with Yahoo!

In fact, all these customizations and features that can be catered to each person's needs through Yahoo is one of the reasons why it is the most popular website on the Internet.

When it comes to search results though, Google is the best hand's down. I know from personal experience from doing various searches in Yahoo that just gave me absurd results. One thing I do like that Yahoo has over Google with regards to their searching is analyzing site structures. In this case, I feel that Yahoo's Site Explorer is much more efficient and thorough than the various advanced queries you can do through Google.

Default Google - Pioneers of minimalist design

Google pioneered the minimalist approach in web design. However this was just an accident, the founders knew little html or web design when they started out.

For me it all comes down to how good the search engine is at finding what I want. In that regard, Google wins and has the best algorithm. Yahoo and MSN certainly aren't bad, but if nothing else, Google has a larger index of sites that updates more often.

If you do what is necessary to rank well on Google, your rankings on Yahoo and MSN will increase in time as well. Put a stat counter on your website that can keep track of where your searches are coming from, what search engines are being used and how often, etc. This info will help you direct your efforts.
