The most popular form of advertising on the Internet's World Wide Web is currently banner advertising. A banner (graphic image) and link are displayed on a high traffic web site, in which the people visiting that site (the audience) see when the page loads. This banner commonly advertises a product, service, or just another web site. It can also be used to show someone's point of view on a certain topic (for example, a presidential election).

Increasing site traffic: This probably the mostly likely thing that you will use banner advertising for.
To sell more of your product(s) or service(s).
To be able to notify buyers of your new product or service, or offer them a special deal/discount.
To Spread your ideas about a certain topic.
To get people to remember your company's name! (Incase they wish to have your products or services in the future!)

banner advertising can be effective in translating into leads, however it takes a lot of planning when placing a banner adverting campaign, as it can be costly. having a banner created for your site can be a nominal charge. having the banner put in the right locations with the right message is a whole other story. you need to keep in mind that just any site will not be right for a real estate agent. it is not a bad idea to have a banner on hand in case you can come across the right site to do this with, or a directory in which a banner can be used. in these cases the banner is most effective as the people looking for your information will see you standing out among the listings. much like looking through the yellow pages.

It can be effective when you choose the right sites/places to put them but it can be costly if you don't investigate/plan first.

Some of the webmaster says that banner advertisement becomes old way of marketing not much helpful is true or still its effective in internet marketing??
