    Default Moving tips!

I'm going to be carpet bagging to the Raleigh-Durham area at the end of this month for a new job. With the signing bonus and no one down there to aid my move, I'm going to hire professional movers to load, deliver and unload most of my stuff. I'm going to take some clothes and some items of real value with me and drive down on my own.

The quotes I've been getting vary fairly wildly, from $800 to $2000, most settling in at $1400 for about 3000 lbs. of stuff.

Has anyone used pro movers or have either services to avoid or ones they would recommend?

I plan to pack everything myself except to let the movers wrap the big furniture. Also, I assume I'll be tipping the guys who are moving the stuff. Are there any hidden costs that you were hit by when you moved? Anything I should be looking out for or ask about ahead of time?

    Default moving companies

I'd stick with an older, well know company like northAmerican van lines. Check out movers at the amsa (american moving and storage association) website... they are an independent source for information about professional moving companies.

The decision of moving to another place is however exciting, but packing up is something most of the people fear.It is better to hire professional movers if you want hazel free move and can afford it. But if you decide to move by yourself. here are some useful tips.
The first thing is to obviously make a game plan

1)First you need Make sure that you create a complete inventory of all your belongings that you will be moving to your new address
2)Make sure you have enough help and trucks/vans to load up your boxes
3)Before you start packing up your house, decide what you really need to bring into your new home. Many things lose their value or use over the years, but you still hang on to them
4)Do not wait until the last minute for packing. Start from that room which you do not use most
3)You will need to have the following materials in order to start packing.
Strong boxes, Wardrobe boxes, Bubble Wrap, newspaper, Markers etc

you can find lots of good information on Boxyourstuff site

choosing a moving company is definitely not a decision that should be taken lightly. i would do a good amount of research about local and national movers. and get a bunch of different quotes - the cheapest one is not always the best one so be careful.

Who can't use some moving tips when they're packing up their whole life for a new home? If you're among thousands of people who have picked up and moved their family to a new home or a new community, you have fresh memories of some of the ups and downs or thrills or frustrations of moving.

Buying a new home is an exciting part of life, but along with buying comes moving. Packing and moving can be a very stressful event. Here are some tips to help make your move simpler and less chaotic.

    Use the right size boxes.
Put heavy items, like books, in small boxes; light items, like linens and pillows, in bigger ones. (Large boxes packed with heavy items are a common complaint of professional movers. They not only make the job harder but also have a better chance of breaking.)

Put heavier items on the bottoms of boxes, lighter items on top.
    And if you
