While you may not get good targeted traffic from Stumbleupon, it never hurts to build up more backlinks to your site. And, if they are using the nofollow tag, that only means it won't pass any page rank to your pages, however the spider will still visit.

stumblers will just go to your site and drain your bandwidth.

they'll look at your content, then click stumble again and move on to the next page.

Ideas like this might work for a while, but it is only a matte of time until Google decides they don't think this type of traffic is relevant.

Don't under estimate the power of StumbleUpon or other social media sites. Most of the sites you submit your content to categories so your are entering into a targeted demographic, eg, I have no interest in science so I would not be looking in science categories for marketing information!

The nofollow tag is very much a gray area. From our experience you can build up backlinks using nofollow blogs so it seems to be a internet myth.

If you want to find social sites that are dofollow try using socialmarker(dot)com. you select dofollow only and also Comment Kahuna is a good tool for finding dofollow blogs.

    Default StumbleUpon

    I agree with Brad.
Granted StumbleUpon uses rel=nofollow tags it's about building back links.
Any traffic that creates a lead, a bookmark or a sale is good traffic right? Build back links. Content is King but Links are the Queen and her court. Google is all about links.

    Thanks i-ology!
any traffic is good traffic and social media traffic can be much needed free traffic. It all creates awareness and as i-ology mention if it gives you a lead, a bookmark (opportunity for future action) or a sale it is good traffic and you should be taking advantage of it.

I use StumbleUpon and so far i has been helpful. There is some significant readership from the US. The only thing is that most blog sites are better with more casual information like Hollywood gossip.
