Default Quick SEO Tip (301 Permanent Redirect)

Just a quick tip...If you haven't set up a permanent redirect for your site then DO SO! Search engines may think domain(dot)com and www(dot)domain(dot)com are two different sites. You should set up a permanent redirect (technically called a "301 redirect") between these sites. Once you do that, you will get full search engine credit for your work on these sites.

I would of posted on how to do this....but this site isn't allowing me to post URLs. Part of the code has urls in it. So I guess you will have to search for it on google.

Ok...I can post urls now. Here is how you do it:

Create a .htaccess file with the below code, it will ensure that all requests coming in to domain.com will get redirected to www.domain.com

The .htaccess file needs to be placed in the root directory of your old website (i.e the same directory where your index file is placed)

    Code:
    Options +FollowSymlinks
    RewriteEngine on
    rewritecond %{http_host} ^domain.com [nc]
    rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/$1 [r=301,nc]
Please REPLACE domain.com and www.domain.com with your actual domain name.

Note* This .htaccess method of redirection works ONLY on Linux servers having the Apache Mod-Rewrite moduled enabled.

301 redirect is the ethical technique in SEO and you can do it for your website, there is nothing wrong. most of the webmasters doing that to get indirect traffic on the main website.

I use 301 as well so I guess there's no issue about using it.

To my knowledge i felt that 301 direction will help you on seo perspective while you are getting links from the other sites. But it pretty good know about the permanent redirection credits for the site.
