Default do you use a professional real estate photographer?

I am wondering how many agents use a real estate photographer and the reasons for and against. Do you use the photographer for the quality of the photos, to save time, because of the service, etc. If you don't use a photographer is it because of the cost, the time factor, etc.

    Thanks for your input.

With digital cameras, photoshop and other photo editing software I have never seen the reason for the additional cost and time delay. I can take pictures right when I list the property and upload into the MLS and other websites as soon as I get back to the office/home. I send the pictures to my print advertisers and have never had a quality issue in the print form. I am sure you can argue that there is a better way, but unless it is free....sorry

It depends on the value of your home. If you are selling a high-end home, a professional photographer can help you create the "WOW" factor. A digital camera simply won't cut it. For our fractional ownership homes, we always hire a local professional photographer to shoot high quality photos.

If you are selling a generic home, you may do okay with a digital camera. However, stunning photos do help attract buyers and leave them with a great initial impression.

I take my own pictures. I have a really good camera and a pretty good eye. I enjoy taking pictures and if there is a problem, you can easily do them over. I send the pictures out to have brochures done.

I mostly agree with Mr. fractional-homes. It mainly depends on the listing you have. If you have a high-end listing and even better an exclusivity contract with the seller, it could be worth hiring a professional photographer. And if you are anyway interested in photograph you could make use of your hobby for your profession and just improve your own photographer skills. So this would be even better. Because you avoid having to find a photographer who knows how to take the right pictures of a home, so that it can generate leads. And how much photographer have experience in selling real estate? I took some courses in order to get closer to professional photographer skills.

I could see hiring a professional photograph for a really high end listing...definitely. Just to be sure you get the best photos possible and whatever other little extras may be available.

I would like to thank you for your comments. They were very informative. If anyone else would like to add anything please do. I'm not just interested in those wanting photos of high end home, but also in pro photo of the average house.

a photo that makes a property look incredible is worth it, if you can do it yourself and have the time to take a bunch of pics to get the one and edit it, do it, but a pro will do it quicker and better.
the right photo will help you sell the property quicker and for more money!
