A realtor need to be internet guru for success online?
A realtor is a businessman first. As internet became one of the foremost tool for searching and advertising real estate, it became one of the top advertising methods for realtors.
Having a website is just the beginning, marketing it is the most difficult part. Anybody tried marketing a site knows the game.
Now question is how much a realtor should know about online marketing?

As with all marketing online of offline, start small and build on
what works for you in your area. I've found that systems or
programs that have the appearance of being difficult will keep
lazy agents from using them and keep the market open to me!
Don't be afraid to work for something and put in the time to learn!

I would look into the book Real Estate Rainmaker. It is very simple and will really help you to get a jump start. With a realtor not having time to learn marketing, because the real money is made in front of clients, it helps to have all the info packed into one book.

Not many agents can balance Internet Marketing and selling real estate. So for those of you who cannot, I recommend finding someone that can handle the internet marketing for you.
It can take as little as 3 months to a year to rank for your key words depending on how competitive the key words are for your market. So that means you need to spend time building links, blogging and adding fresh and unique content to your website. You also need to study and research your competitors, see where your clients are coming from and probably the most important, conversion rates.
This is alot of work, so unless you are willing to dedicate alot of time to rank well, find someone to do it for you and do what you do best and thats sell real estate.
Just my 2 cents!

important to understand what it's about and how it fits into your overall strategy? yeah, that's important for a realtor, let alone any business person.
should a realtor be involved with the daily tasks of marketing real estate online (or any other marketing for that matter)... that's really best answered by the question "where are your efforts the most profitable?"
spend your time where you get the biggest return on your investment.Mark Eckenrode

No you don't have to be an expert in online marketing or websites, most of the time realtor websites are direct referrals from clients anyway. But you can beef up the website traffic a bit if you learn a few tricks along the way.

As for problems such as this, you might want to just hire an expert on some issues like this. It'll be much helpful.

the principles of online marketing are really not that that different from offline marketing. the technical stuff is where many agents get hung up, but if you are really successful then you can pay someone else to do this stuff for you. some agents have built their businesses online, however, many of the most successful agents still don't do much online at all. there are still many ways to do marketing effectively.
