New to the game
I'm a new agent just passed the test and was looking for ways to gain clients and promote my current listings, but i don't have much $. Does anyone have any suggestions?
An agent friend of mine suggested freetampabay.com (my hometown). Has anyone else used these sites. I guess there's one for almost every city and you can post your listing and create a business profile for free. Is there a catch?
Does that break any RE code of ethics? I figured more visibility is good and free is better, but I'm new to the game. Any other suggestions?

I guess the more free publicity and visibility you can get for your lisitngs the better. Not the best way to secure a sale, but - it's free right
If you don't have a lot of advertising dollars then here are a couple ideas:
- Join all the networking groups you can; chamber of commerce, realtor assoc, investor clubs, etc
- Sit open houses for other realtors in your office to get leads
- Do as much floor/ desk time in the office you can
- Create a referral group with related business; a title agent, insurance, mortgage brokers etc
- Give out at least 10 biz cards a day
- Most local restuarants and gyms will let you leave your cards or flyers
- Work your SOI really hard, phone, mail ....
- Door Hangers are always pretty inexpensive, especially if you get your referral partners to split the cost.
- Cold Call

Ya thanks for all the tips TJ I will definately use them. I checked out that site some more (freetampabay.com) and it seems to be legit and a good way to get visibility, at least for me. They have a pretty neat feature that allows you to create a website type business profile or input an existing one.
there's also links to every major city in the bottom right. Anyway, thanks for tips and i'll let you know how it goes.

What about generating leads online?
I just started studying for the real estate brokers exam. I was interested in getting in the game and doing most of it online (through online marketing, buying leads...)
Anyone with experience generating mortgage leads through their websites, or buying leads and closing on them?

Don't forget about the basics...
1. Make sure your flyer looks better than the competition
2. Make sure your boxes are full
3. Make sure your directions to the home are accurate
4. Make sure you know the other homes in your area and how they compare
5. Make sure you are in constant contact with your sellers
6. Make sure your description of the home attracts attention
7. In short, Do a great job so that your work stands out and you generate a fast sale. This will generate the best advertising you can do.

When I was new in the industry and did residential, here is what I did to attract buyers and sellers. Held a "Home Buyers" & "Home Sellers" Informational Seminar. I lined up a mortgage broker, title company rep, home inspector, attorney, and of course, me and one of my co-workers.
We shared some of the costs with the other professionals. The Title Rep brought food and snacks (just not snacks), I make coffee and the mortgage broker provided the coffee cups (with his logo of couse - I still have a few of them). Additionally, another broker and I worked coequally and shared the newspaper ad costs. We really put on a hugh production, just not the usual sing and dance.
We had so many calls, we had to hold three seminars! At the first one, over 30 people showed up. From that, we learned to keep the count down to five couples or ten people.
The result, my associate and I each had over eight closes within four months. Back then, the market was tight, so this was a welcome relief. This generated repeat business and refferals. Since her and I were both broke starting out, this really helped both of us start our careers.J. Christin Gray

Never heard of that website
Never heard of the website you mentioned.
First thing i would do, would be to see if the website appears for search terms in the real estate area you focus, then ask them what their traffic is.
Sometimes its faster to do that than setting up your account.

Great ideas
Many of these idea are great ut I believe the most important thing to do is to make sure you are putting yourself into situations where there may be home buyers and sellers. Go to business seminars and be outgoing, go to some those no money down seminars, find places where you will see lots of people that you can talk with (not the mall) and use the internet to it's full potential, target home buyers and sellers by making your web pages and ads relevent to those people so they will visit and then give them a reason to call.
