Search Twitter for people and tweets related to your business / location / search term...
Follow them ... many of them will Follow you and many of their followers will then see this and start following...
Then repeat and keep repeating every so often.
tweet, tweet and tweet some more ... and don't stop tweeting.cskMicro: Advanced Real Estate Marketing Solution

Search for the targeted Niche and follow them. Tweet on relevant is good to generate traffic but along with it also share some good thoughts and updates in other interesting vicinity.

Find people who tweet quality information and also tweet often.
Look out for specific tags.Last edited by Chief Tutor; 07-01-2011 at 12:46 PM.

Can somebody give me specific examples of the type of people/companies they decide to follow in order to build Twitter as a successful marketing tool?
Some examples of my own are as follows (I am based in Fullerton, CA):
The City of Fullerton (As I'm based in Fullerton, CA many residents will be following "The City of Fullerton on Twitter. They can find you through this Twitter user.)
SoCalMLS (I use SoCalMLS to search for properties/input new listings, etc.) - Many other agents and those in the Real Estate business will be following this. If you Tweet new listings in your area they will definitely be seen by all who follow them.
Those are two personal examples I can think of at the moment.

I've been trying to figure out the Twitter game for awhile...can't seem to quite get into the groove with it. Not sure if I'm just not doing it correctly (which is probably the case) but seems to be like its mainly spammy posts...but then again you are pretty refined to the max character length.

Just avoid spam-like posts. Your followers will become immune to them and start to skim over your name and ignore your tweets. The important thing to take into consideration is the QUALITY of your tweets. Mix it up! Make them informational, fun facts, funny links (all regarding real estate), but remember to stay professional!
