Increasing your website presence on the internet is great but if you dont have time to do the SEO yourself hiring a company is ideal.

My frustration with hiring a company is that I had to go through 6 SEO companies before I got one that would actually give me good service. This has definitively been a learning experience so here are what I learned about finding a good SEO company.

Check their website's SEO ranking, if it doesnt rank well for keywords in their industry, they suck.
Dont just look at their portfolio, call their clients and get a referral from them
If they cant give you an SEO plan, dont bother
If they dont give you a weekly and monthly SEO report that will include, the url of the new backlinks dont bother with them.
If they tell you that they can get you on the first google page for a keyword like Atlanta real estate in less then 3 months, dont bother with them.
If they advertise giving you backlinks on 5000 directories, dont bother with them because 99% of all directories arent even cached by google.
If they dont start the SEO process by first doing on-site SEO, dont bother with them.
If they offer to do your SEO and only offer to do SEO for keywords that get less then or almost no searches for them per month and charge you over $800 a month for it, dont bother with them.

Hope this helps so that no one has to go endure 2 years of stress and anxiety like I had to go thru before I found a decent SEO company.

For those of you who have had SEO work done for them by a company, how well did they do? How high did your page rank for the key words that you wanted? How much did it increase your business?

Well, I have a different opinion about seo companies as, there are some companies that I know gives positive results and mainly handles real estate websites and do increases the leads too.

I personally feel that before giving your website to a seo company first you should find the service reputation of that particular company and moreover you can get a report from the their clients. Focus on b2b related sites to optimize your site; they would show you the best result on your site.

Excellent points. I might add one. If an SEO consultant or firm takes you on too readily, they may not be right for you. I evaluate every potential client for SEO and assess whether they are even a good candidate. I've required some to allow me to build them a website in Wordpress just because their current website would never cut it. Several discussions must take place because, frankly, every website will need some minor or major change and the client must make decisions about realistic keyword targets. SEO for real estate can take upward of a year to compete, and in some markets, the first few spot or two on Google may never be overcome if those firms are aggressively maintaining a solid SEO strategy.

PS, if you put three back-links on a post with ten or twenty words, don't be surprised if your links have next to zero impact. Google knows what comment spam is and their algorithms simply filter out such noise.

Contribute to the conversation, wherever you are, in a realistic way and then leave ONE link. Shotgun approaches and short term strategies always fail in the end.

Every good SEO company will have their own websites in different niches that they themselves own. Ask to see these and check how well they perform.

Too many people sell themselves as SEO experts when in actual fact they are not. Do your due diligence carefully.
