How should I start off my path to real estate?
Pick how you want to be in real estate. Do you want to become a REALTOR or investor? If REALTOR, align yourself with the most effective sales company around. In Southern California, First Team is the best (they have the best programs to market, attract and close customers.) Also, implement a prospecting system as quickly as possible. Craig Proctor's program is effective as is my own, 4MySales.com.

Start a Website
I would also suggest building a website immediately. It will likely set you back a few thousand dollars to have a good site built but it will pay for itself many time over. Also, get started on an SEO strategy so that you start generating leads from your site.
Looking for a realtor in Minnesota? How about a Missouri realtor in St. Louis or Kansas City? Agents Ranking researches the performance of thousands of real estate agents every year and hand selects the best realtors. You can also find information on Minneapolis Realtors at Minneapolisrealestates.com.

A good tip for building your client list as a realtor is your wedding. If you plan on getting married anytime soon make sure you get everyones name/address/email etc. who attends your wedding. You could end up with a couple hundred people on your list in one day. Your wife might not be too happy with you though!

I agree with MegaBucks and would add that you should seek out a mentor. Find a successful agent you can learn from.

Find some training or a mentor as suggested, but don't keep preparing forever.
Just go out and do it!! Experience will give you much more knowledge than books and tapes and interviews. Trust me, I know from doing it over the past year!Steve Howe - REALTOR - RE/MAX Advantage Plus
