Rehab home/not to code
I am currently looking to purchase a home built in the 1950's or earlier in the Maricopa County (Arizona) area. The homes I have seen need near total rehab which I do not mind. However, does anyone know how long I have to make these changes before an inspector is required to come out and check the property?
Would any codes be "Grandfathered" in? And could this buy me a little more time? Also, after purchase, does the city send an inspector over to assess the problems, or is that my responsibility?
Please note that I'm not at all trying to get out of the work all together, I just do not have the funds available to completely renovate the home in 30 to 60 days. I also do not want to sell the house to make a profit, just a place to retire in the next 20 years or so.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Bob Z
