Default You, The Tenant. Part One: Resources

Renting for the first time is complicated as it is, but when you add the confusing legal aspects of rental contracts, it can get overwhelming.

Today, rather than bombarding you all with a bunch of information, we’re going to offer you some general knowledge that should come in handy when you’re going to sign for your first apartment.

One of the most important things you need to know is that:

As a Tenant, You Have Rights and Obligations

Here in Ontario, the Landlord and Tenant Board enforces the Residential Tenancies Act. This board has been created to function as mediation between landlords and tenants while also regulating rent increases, and educating individuals about the Residential Tenancies Act in general.

This Board does a great deal in terms of providing information online, so rather than regurgitating information here, we’ll just recommend you check out this portion of their website:

    http://www.ltb.gov.on.ca/en/Key_Info...02_111232.html

Keep checking here for more information! We’ll be posting about many legalese topics that affect renting here in Ontario.

If you are overwhelmed by the process of renting an apartment then you might ask to take the rental agreement home and review it for a couple of days. This will allow you to ask all of the right questions and get the answers you need.
