    Default Open House Blues

Sigh... So I'm sitting here in an open house (thank God for WiFi...).

There have been a few cars that slowed down in front of the house, but just as they look like they're about to stop they speed off. Wondering what the deal is, I go out front to look around and realize that there is a car in the driveway across the street that's riddled with bullet holes. Like "how did they get out alive?" kind of bullet holes. It doesn't seem like that good of an idea to go ask them to move it and quit scaring off all my buyers, so I guess this is just another Sunday afternoon I can write off in the name of experience.

Anybody else got an open house horror story to share?

Sounds like you should pick another listing next time... I don't however think the speeding off had anything to do with the car. I see it a lot, they will look really hard like they will be stopping and then just take off like they are late to where they were going.

    Default Bullet holes?

And I thought an unmowed lawn was bad?

Many years ago I had a listing in a bad part of town. There had been a gang related shooting in front of that house, someone was killed and there was a memorial with a white cross and flowers. Right in front of the house!! I did one open house there and only a couple of people came in, and they asked about it and left right away.

It is funny to look back on those experiences that we go through when we are new and struggling and can't turn away any business!!

    Default Open House Adventures

I once worked an open house where the property was on a cul-de-sac and golf course and had been vacant for some time. About 45 minutes into the open house, and still no lookers, I looked out the bay windows of the breakfast room that looked out over the course and into the neighbors' bedroom window. Apparantly, the neighbors were unaware of the open house (even with the signs) as they left the blinds open. I don't want to get graphic but needless to say, I'm glad there were no lookers in at the time. Actually, depending on the lookers, it could have been a selling point.
