Default Small circle of contacts in my area

I hear that realtors get started and build clients through referrals from family, friends and their social network. I don't have a big social network in my area b/c I've only lived here 2.5 years. Will that really hurt me getting started?
Any tips for networking to potential clients if I do become a realtor?

    Thank you!

It won't necessarily hurt you, but it does mean you will probably have to work harder than some other agents!

If you haven't already planned our a marketing campaign then be sure to start immediately. If you don't already have a website that should be a priority. Begin writing a weblog about your area with solid content that will continually attract visitors to your site.

Consider writing a monthly newsletter to send out to your farm. If you're low on funds than you might want to go door-to-door (not always the most fun but easiest on the pocketbook).

Friend and family leads dry up pretty quickly anyways so I wouldn't worry about that. Networking, meeting people, and marketing yourself is what real estate are all about. You will need to be good at that to be sucessful. Start joining every group around and start telling people you are in real estate. They can be any groups including church, football, baseball, cooking classes, dance classes, chamber of commerce ........ anything!!!

I consider the contacts of my family to be my contacts. Ex. My wife is a teacher and therefore has a lot of contacts (professional and otherwise). I have added those names to my soi list. If they know, like and trust my wife, chances are they will feel the same about me. I have gotten a lot of business in this manner.
