Default Tell me about your broker

I am considering switching careers to become a realtor. I have lots of questions and am doing research to find out more about the profession before taking the next step with the course.

I've heard so many different set ups about brokers. Can you tell me about yours and why you like your set up (or dislike it)?

what broker are you with? is it a national company or smaller/local?
how is your commission plan set up?
do you work as a team?
    how do leads work?
what is like as a beginner with your broker?
how many agents work under the broker?
opinion: for a beginner is it best to start with a big name (ie. Remax or Coldwell) or a smaller local company?

As a beginer it is good to start with a big name. They usually have an educational system that you can benfit from.

Start out as part of a team so you can learn the ropes. The real estate schools typcially teach you very little about the real world.

Once you understand how the business works, then consider going to a smaller firm with bigger commission splits and working by yourself.

A broker can have as many or few agents as they want. Make sure you get some sort of exclusive area so you aren't consitantly competting directly with your co workers.

What kind of service do they provide you?

Unfortunately there is no easy answer here for you. It is a difficult and confusing process. But it basically breaks down to:

What leads if any will they provide?
    What is the split?
    What are they expenses?
    What education they provide?

All companies will vary on most of these issues.
