LinkedIn
I have just joined LinkedIn. However, I am not sure how to use it. Does anyone have some good advice on how to use it to adverstise my real estate business, or to drive traffic to my website?
I am interested in any relevant experience you may have had with LinkedIn.Robert Jenson

I love Linkedin!
Linkedin in my opinion is great and you get so much better quality networking possibility with prospects and quality than Facebook.
There are so many ways to set it up, but a great little book and so easy to read and implement is "The power formula for LinkedIn success : kick-start your business, brand, and job search" by Wayne Breitbarth.
You can check it out at your local libary (that is what I did) and it is brand new, so it is updated.
The best features that I found on Linkedin is joining Groups, where I advertise and post my properties for sale, also I formed a Group, where I network with my contacts (also imported from Facebook and post articles, news and other information, and available properties. My blog is fed directly into the Linkedin Profile and also they have some cool apps, where you can upload videos in your profile, documents, etc.
The book will explain in more detail - by the way, I am not making money by advertising this book, I just thought it was a great resource for someone new to Linkedin.

The first thing that you need to do when trying to establish contacts on linkedin is to first invite people you actually know personally. Then from them you can get networked to other people and then you can invite them to join you. You can also join groups or companies listed in linkedin. But remember to be careful in sending out invitations to people in linkedin. It has a tighter leash than facebook and will end up locked-out or needing an email address when you trying to invite people in your network.

If you're reading this comment, you were thinking the same thing I did, what on Earth is LinkedIn and I started looking for some answers. For the first time I ever see LinkedIn I received an e-mail invitation from a friend of mine. Many businesses already know the power they can use by joining LinkedIn. LinkedIn a bit like the Facebook, but completely business oriented.

I completely agree with Laura's assessment, in fact, would also endorse the book by Wayne Breitbarth as it helped me jumpstart my LinkedIn presence too.

Marketing through LinkedIn
LinkedIn as mentioned earlier is business oriented and yes it's like FaceBook. It's a networking site but mainly for professionals and businesses.
Invite your colleagues to join your network but make sure that they know you 'coz if they didn't accept your invitation, you will receive an email from LinkedIn about it. If this happens more than 3x (if I remember it right), your account will be blocked.
Aside form increasing your professional network, you should also join different groups (related to your business) and be active on their page. Through this, you will earn your name and expertise.

The think about LinkedIn is that it isn't a place to spam your website or try to drive traffic from. Everybody has something to sell so people will just not stand for that.
It is a place to network and build relations.

I joined today
I just joined Linked In today and I have to admit, that I am a little puzzled myself. I kept thinking this would be like Facebook and in some ways it is but I can't really find too many of my friends on there. Oh well, I will keep searching!! lol

It really depends what industry your friends are in. It is a social network for business professionals and I think it attracts certain groups of people. Not much for chatting (like Facebook or Twitter). For someone who loves posting and reading content, but do not like to chat online (like me), it is perfect!
