    Default Paperless

Has anyone tried to become paperless in their office yet? I have been steadily making more and more things digital, and using less and less paper. However, it seems that paper is always created in some form or another, generally when I am working with another agent that does not embrace digital technology as eagerly as I.

Does anyone have any tips on how you reduced paper use in your office?

    Default It will never happen!

    Hello,

We will never become 100% paperless... Contracts need to be signed, and eSigs are not easy to implement yet. Maybe when people can electronically sign as easy as they can hand sign, there may be a chance, but until then... Then there needs to be a absolute way to prevent forgery and fraudulent documents, and I don't see anything near the level we need to certify document authenticity.

Then you have all the RoD documents, which I suppose is not a part of the RE agent's office, but there again will not see go paperless for quite a while.

    Just my opinion...

We got close to being paperless. we use callwave.com for efax and paperport for storage of docs and making forms. But to go completely paperless in this business is impossible until the courts decide they can use esignatures.

Very good points. I know that I will never get to be nearly as paperless as I want because of the courts and working with clients and agents that are not as keen on the whole paperless idea. However, it has been really nice around my office coming up with ways to reduce the amount of paper that hangs around. My desk looks much cleaner when it only has the computer on it, and not a pile of papers everywhere.

I think the largest problem with becoming paperless that I see is the potential for loss of data. While pretty much only fire or natural disaster can destroy paper documents, and if usually very low occurrence; hard drives in computers die very frequently. In fact, if your computer is older than 3 years, the hard drive is likely on it's last leg.

I can't count the times that a person or business came to me, back when I was in the computer repair biz, and said their hard drive died and they need the absolutely irreplaceable data within it. I would also ask "no problem, where's the backup?". I'd say 9 times out of 10 backups didn't exist. There-in being the problem. A certain discipline is required to go paperless and to make sure you have sufficient backups for the data your keeping electronically.

Here at my workplace, the use of paper is very minimal. The admin folks only use paper for documentation purposes. I think the world is still in the curve of going from paperful to paperless.
