The video thing is much the same as normal SEO. The page the video is on has to have plenty of links and PR. However, I must admit it is easier to get links to a video on YouTube than a normal site. Just make sure you reference your site in the video (Don't spam it) and put a link in reference box.

Has anyone mentioned the tool SEO Quake? Its a great way to see different search engine relevant information. It lists the number of internal/external links, google/yahoo page rankings, etc. I thinks a great tool in assessing whether search engine campaigns are working effectively.

yeah site speed and links are now being downplayed in favour of content. Social media is also really hot right now so get in on that fast.

It pretty much still comes down to backlinks and anchor text. Te page rank of the sites linking to you is also still very important. Basically the more sites linking to yours the better and the less you linking to others the better.

Google puts a lot of weight on websites with dynamic content. So updating your site with new articles, videos, audio clips helps tremendously. I usually take a day and write a ton of articles on wordpress and drip feed them over time so I don't have to baby sit it everyday. I still use the keyword tricks, but I pay special attention to adding new content surrounding keywords regularly.

I would suggest you start by out sourcing the link building. Besides that you need to identify the key words you want to target and once again it would be sensible to get some help until you feel comfortable with what needs to be done. However you can and should split these two tasks as they require very different skills sets.
