You can have success with PPC, but you can also waste a lot of money. My suggestion would be to hire someone to at least set it up for you and then you can maintain it and alter it from there.

yeah I agreeee... with PPC you can lose a lot of money without professional's help. I've had much success with itbossinc .com and infinite-infotech .com also..later I found all the keywords that were selling well enough, I did promote it myself.
I'm doing 'not bad'.

Start with a low budget and target a specific audience with specific ads. I must admit I have done PPC advertising for my current company (a datacenter) and my wife's Real estate website servicing the Gulf coast of Florida. She has given up all print ads in favor of PPC and online marketing. Magazines and paper ads were just so expensive and so easily overlooked. I have actually enjoyed the CPM model for advertising too, but this takes creating banners to market yourself as well. Contact a professional that can do what I do

I'd suggesting getting a PPC for dummies book, along with an ebook from perrymarshall dot com.
Then, pick a budget and start testing! There is nothing more exciting than learning you can turn traffic to your site on and off like a faucet.

It took me a few failed campaigns to work out what works with PPC and what will bomb your cash faster than a sumo wrestler on a bungee jump. I now have two campaigns running that get average CTR (click through ratios) of 10% and nice, low cost per clicks.
There's a lot to consider, but here are some key factors you must implement:
1. Think about the keywords you are bidding on.
Are they too broad? Are they actually relevant to the exact same landing page that you are sending visitors to? Are you thinking vertically about obvious keywords when really you should be thinking laterally about related keywords with less competition (use a keyword tool and a brainstorm as much as possible)
2. The ad itself needs to appeal
There's no point in PPC if you don't get clicks. Plus, the more clicks you get vs the impressions your ad gets (how many times it is triggered and displayed for a given keyword) will help to increase your quality score and lower your cost per click as a result. This means that you need to write a compelling ad...it needs to portray benefits, a call to action and the actual keyword you are bidding on for that particular ad
3. The landing page must be high quality and relevent
You can seriously lower your cost per clicks (through a higher quality score) when your landing page is highly relevent to that particular keyword that you are bidding on. You may need to segment your keywords into smaller, more tightly focused groups so that each group has a really relevent ad and landing page. A quality landing page means including the keyword you are bidding for actually on the landing page text itself, preferably in prominent places such as the title. A quality landing page will also include lots of useful content, additional links to your company pages and an overal quality user experience.
I hope this helps, of course there is much more to learn but these are the building blocks of a successful campaign.
Remember, PPC is all about getting quality leads. Where most people will chase huge quantity, they will not convert that traffic because most of it is people who are tire kickers, or just not looking for the exact same thing that you're offering.
Be super focused, then explore once you've got one campaign/ad group making consistent profits.

PPC can be helpful but so far..
So far I'm getting a lot of folks clicking on my ad and then zipping away after the first page.. it's hard to imagine paying 15cents for that.. so i gave it up and just worked on improving my search ranking..
