Facebook Ads VS PPC
Has any one tried Facebook advertising.
its soon becoming popular and looks like PPC has lost its charm these days due to extreme competition and pver-hyped bidding.
Any reviews on this?

The Facebook Advertising and Pay Per Click there is something that I've been wanting to try out. Seems like it would work fairly well.
To direct your question though, you would have to look at how the ads are displayed (I haven't looked this up yet either) but I would make the assumption that Facebook would only show ads to individuals that they deem appropriate to view them through some sort of inhouse search process.

I agree that PPC is not seem to be all that anymore. I've been wanting to try Facebook ads myself, and I've read that the way they show the ads are targeted. Like they take into account factors like age, s-e-x, interests, relationship etc...

With Facebook advertising, you'll get a lot of traffic. However, they don't convert very well. There's an interview made last month with guys from SEOMoz and SEOBook explaining that Facebook traffic is mostly made of lurkers (people who are socializing, not researching for products) while search engine traffic is mainly composed of people actually looking for information.

To promote ads on facebook you choose your demographic - e.g. age range, ***, hobbies and interests and geographic location. Therefore your ads are only shown to your target audience. I have run facebook campaigns and they're a great success

I think your success will vary on your approach. I know of many realtors who've successfully obtained leads advertising specific properties on Facebook. I will give you an honest opinion though, I think their prices are not in line with what they deliver. I have yet to be convinced that social media delivers on half the hype it gets.
I'm not saying it's a money pit, but I would treat it like any other channel... go slow, experiment a bit and make sure you're tracking how effective it is. Their reporting is still in its infancy and nowhere near as robust as Google Analytics / Adwords.

As I understand it, the Facebook ad system does not depend on how many "friends" you have, it's just old-fashioned advertising whereby the more you pay them, the more of your ads appear on the site. I think they are also tailored/targeted to show up in people's results if they have recently searched for keywords like "real estate", or by city.

Both have Different Advantages
PPC on Google AdWords is great for reaching a large market of people who are searching for information about home, land, etc. You can target your message to specific areas of the country; even down to a specific city.
For Facebook Ads, you can target a specific demographic who live in a specific area. It is much more passive approach because you never know if they people are actually interested in what you are offering. But you are better able to target in on people within a specific demographic and based upon their "like"s and interests.
Both have advantages and both are very different. If you use either I would hire a professional online marketer to help you. Otherwise you will make a lot of rookie mistakes and waste a lot of money.
