I'm not a big fan of PPC as I see it as 'rented traffic'. The second you stop paying for it.... it's gone. When I see PPC ads, I usually think of Affiliate Internet Markets promoting some ClickBank Product on a cheesy squeeze page. I'd rather spend the money on link-building and content to give my site longevity and credibility.
I've also heard of competitors just sitting in front of their computers for hours and clicking on their competitors ads.... Driving their costs way up....Pretty low....but there are people out there that do that.
Just my 2 cents
Jeff

I think SEO is a better investment than investing in PPC.

Thanks for the advice
Thanks for the advice...I'm going to look into this SEO thing. I noticed other people doing stuff like that when on google you search for antioch homes and brentwood homes certain websites keep comming up. is this because of "directories"?

PPC is great short term if you handle it properly. It should be used in conjunction with both online and off-line advertising to run a promotion.
SEO is for long term internet success.

If you know your conversion rate will be high or if you simply need to quickly raise the awareness of a product/site PPC is a good option.
Remember, there are several other places that sell PPC ads for much cheaper than Google. You can find one in particular where you end up paying 5 cents per click or less.

You are way off here.
Most people cap there daily spending limit. Even if they didn't you would be able to stop it the second you saw it happening.
I have had a short term PPC campaign with one particular client who received many consistent, returning visitors every week from the short lived three week campaign.

PPC can be well worth it if done CORRECTLY! Many people think they know what they are doing but waste a lot of time and money because they are only half correct. If you're not familiar with how to manage your ads, effectively target lucrative keywords, split test campaigns, control your quality rating and lower your cost-per-click... you might be better off hiring a professional or staying away from PPC all together.
Not shouting from a soap box here, I simply learned this the hard way and wanted to speak up.

It can be worth it but I find for a lot of smaller sites/companies it isn't. Not with Google. For how much you end up spending per click you almost need to be sure you will convert a certain number of that PPC traffic.
And Google ads on sites (not in the SERPs) do get clicked on. Why else would so many sites do them? The reality is most new Google adwords accounts don't even reach their first 100$ in ad revenue. But thousands of sites pay all of their expenses including large marketing campaigns in totality by what they pull in on their ads. 2% of all your visitors is a reasonable click thru rate.

It's unquestionably worth it to get good ranking on Search Engines but for those who has clear strategy, otherwise it can be very expensive.
