What to Study for College
Hello, I am a Senior in High School and I'm kind of freaking out about what I want to major in for college. I want to learn everything I can for some day to be a house flipper. I know now isn't the time to get into this and i'v heard it a million times... I'm just curious what I need to major in for college in order to be the best flipper I can be.
So I need to study Business and... Have any ideas?Last edited by CrazyjayC; 10-13-2008 at 05:25 PM.

I am not really sure their is a college major or even a course that would really prepare you to flip houses. My best advice on that front is get experience. Find someone who is doing that in your area and work for them. Let them know you want to learn about the business and hopefully they will show you the ropes.

If you are determined to go the college route, could try something like: Real Estate & Construction Management.
Realistically though, nothings going to prepare you for the real deal except experience. Your best bet is to get tied into a person that does it, and try to learn from him.

Oh great stuff, thanks again and will still love to read more! But yeah I'm not really looking to get into flipping houses right after college, but would like to study stuff in college like business, construction, ext.. on preparing me for flipping.
PS: I know that no one said this but generally when someone wants to get into house flipping, it is because they think it is an easy buck and thats why they do it, well....I really have a passion to do this, not looking at the $ at all, and quit frankly, I'd think it isn't an easy buck at all, especially how the economy is right now. Just wanted to let you all know.

I did Construction Management. Learned a lot, great job placement afterwards if you want to be stuck in a stressful job for years to come.
Take a look at finance, see what concentrations your school of business will have to offer. I know mine just started a "Real Estate" concentration.
See if there are any real estate clubs on campus. If there are, contact them and see what majors they suggest.

There allot of options for careers in an surrounding the Real Estate industry. The biggest mistake people make it trying to "go it alone" without a Mentor and allot of book knowledge, i.e. R.E. Investment book on "how to". You'll probably want to find a Mentor and ride shotgun on a few of their flips before doing your own first.

I did 4 years at Texas A & M Galveston (whooooop!) and graduated with a BS in maritime administration. This business degree was based on the maritime industry, but it covered accounting, personel managment, and much more. It just prepared me for anything I wanted to do...

I agree with Nat. Find a mentor and surround yourself with successful agents. I think a great way to start in real estate is to join a team that will supply you with leads to work the business as well.

What to Study for College
for real estate do a google search for the local real estate investors association in your area. There you'll get a feel for how it works. Try to become a property locator so that you can earn some cash while learning the biz, without risking your cash or credit.
BTW I'm almost 40, with two degrees and still don't know what i want to do when i grow up. Dont stress over it.
