Default RE schools and pass/fail ratio

Is it common to request the pass/fail ratio of a real estate school or specific instructor you are considering using? I know the class can be challenging. I guess I figure if there is a good amount passing then the instructor must be good.

I would imagine it's not a horrible question but in all honesty is the instructor really the person to blame if you fail a state exam? Real Estate courses have a state determined course structure that has to be exactly the same in each and every class, the only difference between classes should be how personable the instructor is and if he/she make you laugh from time to time. The state even determines how much time, in minutes, each chapter should be discussed. This is how the state knows you take exactly 63 hours of class time.

This is my experience in Florida, I'm assuming it's generally the same in any state.

I think that asking the ratios is the most important question you can ask and will play a part in your ultimate success. Yes the instructors have to teach to the book. However, it's the other things that go into it that make the difference.

You instructor is important because their examples and teaching styles will help you to remember the key points to the topics. To this day I can still remember many of my instructor's view points and examples of things that happened to him in the field.

MOST OF ALL... The course provider may create their own study guide. This guilde (could be a book or a CD or in my case both) can help a lot and it is up to the school to create it. In my market, this study guide is the single biggest factor between one school and another and ultimate success rates.

Find out about ratios and join the class with the best one!!

thanks so much, gjtrafl. i've heard of some instructors being really good simply b/c of the way they present the material. someone interesting vs. someone flat out boring will probably have different results. and i think the pass/fail ratio is probably a good way to go.

50% of it is the instructor and the other 50% is a study guide. These are the 2 most important things that go into a high success rate with the final exam.

I would also ask them not only the pass fail ratio of the course but also the state licensing exam. I think this is a very common question and you should not be afraid to ask it. I would also contact a real estate firm in your area and find out what school they recommend. Good Luck!

Real Estate schools in Texas must maintain a certain state exam pass ratio for their students. If enough of their students aren't passing the state test, the school will lose its accreditation.

This is a little [a lot] late, but the highest pass rate for North Carolina when I took the course [last January] was for JY Monk. I'd recommend Kim as an instructor - she was really great.

The schools in my area are basically the same as far as teaching concepts. However, I found that the one thing that helped me the most was an online license tutor. I came out of my real estate class feeling that there was no way I could pass that test....too much to remember in such a short time. I found this website, signed up and within about 7 days I felt confident enough to take the test. Passed it the first time! You can PM me if you are interested in the website address. It was not expensive at all and well worth the money. I learned lots from it and it also gave me the confidence to take the test and pass it.
