Do I have what it takes?
Let me apologize in advance if my questions are redundant to those previously posted by others. I've been tossing the idea of becoming an RE agent back and forth for several years now. The timing has never been right for me to take the pre-licensure classes; howeve, now, everything is in line for me to be able to take the classes.
I am 26 years old and have a Bachelor of Arts in English (with an emphasis in professional writing). I'm very internet and computer savvy (I probably spend 8 or more hours a day online). I know how to design websites (from the graphics to the set-up and maintenance technical hosting aspects). I also know how to create cutting-edge print material and have done so for several small businesses. I currently work part-time with an extremely (make my own hours) schedule. My idea was to phase in the RE career until I make enough to quit my part-time job. I spend a lot of my free time combing the MLS for deals and house hunting for otheres. I've also spent countless hours on property records and GIS sites looking at housing specs. I feel that I'd be a good agent because of my outgoing, yet laid back personality. I have an eye for detail and describe things very well. I come from a family that loves to "flip" houses and my owns more than a dozen rentals.
Do I seem to fit the bill? How do I compare to other agents. I would just like the opinion of other professionals before I take the classes.
Also, do most agents purchase their own health insurance from an outside source? My husband has his own company and I've always been the carrier of the insurance. I wondered how this would work if I made real estate my sole career.
Thanks in advance for your responses!!------

Obviously, nobody except you could decide, what to do with your own life. However, based on info you provided, I would give it a shot. Remember, you'll get a license and this is always positive. Keep it, and even if it is not what you want to do with your life, you will always have it. It is always a backup plan. Good luck!

You can be a surgeon, fluent in 4 languages, code your Java applets...Bottom line, if you do not go and knock on the doors, you won't make it. Knock on 1,000 doors and get one listing. It's that simple...
Good luck.

Having a real estate career is like owning your own business. It takes a certain type of person. You must have self discipline and be self motivated. It sounds like you have a pretty good grasp on what it will take.

There is no certain mold for real estate. Agents in my market come from many different backgrounds. But I will say this: The day you make it in real estate, is the day you take your foot out of whatever door you have open. You don't get into real estate. Real estate gets into you.
Read the book by Tom Hopkins "how to master the art of selling real estate".
