Default New Realtor- Required to pay $2000 marketing fee to agency???

Hello all, I am not a new realtor but my brother in law just finished his classes and licensing exam here in MA. He got hired as an agent to sell houses in the area, but the company he will be working for wants him to pay $2000 for "marketing and advertising" fees. Is this total BS? Is there anything that a new realtor would have to pay once you finish all the class and licensing exams? Just trying to make sure he isnt getting scammed before I help him with this. Thanks for the help

Yeah, that's bogus. Find a better place to park the license.

    Default That's Crazy!

I've experienced brokerages who take more than they should but that sounds more like a scam than a brokerage. The truth is he has his choice - when you're an agent, you interview the brokerage, they don't interview you. Unfortunately part of this is because a brokerage can make such a minimal investment, but stands to gain so much from an agent who makes a sale.

I've worked with several brokerages in MA and would be happy to have a conversation with your brother - I hope he hasn't paid yet!

Default Many broker options for realtors.

There are so many brokerages that will allow you to keep all of your commission and pay no upfront fees. I would look into those.

As we all know very well that marketing is a way for promoting a business as well as it's products which can be done in many ways.If you have your own al estate business then you should promote it.
